敬愛的師兄師姊： 大家好
慈濟北加州慈善组和醫療组將與美國癌症協會加州華人分會共同参與一項大型的美國癌症協會研究計劃：Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3)-癌症預防研究。該計劃是要經由對大量抽樣人口（30萬）長時期（20年）的追踪研究，找出生活方式，環境，飮食習惯，基因等與癌症發生的關係，對我們華裔這一代和下一代在癌症預防上有十分重要的意義，特此呼籲師兄姊踴躍参加，確保將來癌症預防的研究結果中有關華人的資料不會從缺。
参加無需费用，只需要花一點時間填寫問卷，並於7月27日至慈濟會所量腰圍，抽取少量血液樣本，就可以完城参加手續。以後只需每隔約两年，回覆一份後續追踪的問卷即可。
参加者需先上網登記 http://www.cps3bayarea.org ，預約7月27日10：00AM-2:00PM的一個時段至會所完成参加程序（約需45分鐘）。詳情見下。

什麼是CPS
1959 年，美國癌症協會開始一項全國性大型且 長期的癌症預防追蹤硏究計畫，目的在透過大量參與的人口樣本進行長期追蹤，研究出影響癌症發生的各種因素。CPS的第一階段（CPS-1）招募了一百萬志 願參加者，經過長達十三年的長期追蹤研究，確立了吸煙和肺癌的關係，進而有了目前各項有關吸煙的立法和規定，甚至預防宣導，降低了下一代得肺癌的機率。 CPS-2開始於1980年代，目的在研究生活型態、環境以及遺傳基因對人類癌症發生的關連性。
目 前即將展開的CPS-3則是CPS-2 的延續， 目標是達到三十萬名志願者。CPS-3的主要目的之一是爭取少數族裔的樣本，這對少數 族群癌症研究非常重要。 在此，我們呼籲華人的踴躍參加，以確保未來的癌症研究上，不會缺少華人的相關數據及研究結果， 這對亞裔以及下一代的癌症預防上非常關鍵，影響深逺。
如何成為志願者？
年齡在30至65歲，從未得過癌症，願意參與本計劃20年者都可参加。報名時，僅需填寫問卷，度量腰圍和抽取少量血液樣本。未來每隔2至3年，您將會收到問卷請您更新資料。
您的愛心將對無癌的華人社會有最為深遠且有意義的影響。

We encourage all eligible sisters and brothers to join the project as volunteer participants to ensure that future cancer prevention data and information relevant to us are included in the results of this study.
