  • Anticipatory Set:

    • Students might have some basic understanding of Tzu Chi. For example,
      • Tzu Chi is founded in Taiwan.
      • Who is Dharma Master Cheng Yen and history of Tzu Chi
      • What are four missions and eight foot steps
      • Uniform of Tzu Chi
      • Tzu Chi music
    • Even some new students don't understand what Tzu Chi is about, they could learn from other students
  • Direct Instruction (60min - 80min)

    • Program flow
      • MC (Master of Ceremonies) announces the group partitions and game rules (5 minutes)
        • MC can pick up some questions (e.g. uniforms,...) if students haven't picked them
      • Responsibility of The other two MC (Erin and Victor)
        • stay in the central aisle to pass microphone
        • update the scores on two whiteboards
        • (answers will be sent to Erin and Victor from group representatives)
      • Game plays (75 minutes). Not all questions need to be answered if time is not allowed
      • Reward and "punishment" ceremony (10 minutes)
    • The class with be conducted with the form of "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?"
      • The class will be conducted with questions shown on stage and answers to be provided by students.
      • Students will choose the questions.
      • Questions can be shown on stage with the form of "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?"
        • Scores are associated with each question
        • It is not easy to display team scores on "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?". It is suggested to use two whiteboards to display and to update scores. 
      • Answers will be given by students by assembling Jigsaw Puzzle provided by Advisors
        • Jigsaw puzzles contain partial answers to questions. Students need to collect all correct puzzles in order to answer questions correctly
        • All Jigsaw puzzles (printouts or handwriting) will be passed to students in advance
      • Students are divided into 10 teams or more according to their seating. Team are named after 8 footprints.
      • Each team will take roll to pick up the question they preferred. One microphone will be passed among team leaders to pick up the question.
      • All teams will be given 2 minutes to answer the question. Answers will be chosen and ordered by students and are given to MC.
        • Four sections of 30-second Tzu Chi music will be played during the 2-minute time
      • Scores are given by the following criteria.
        • Full score: questions are answered correctly
        • Zero score: no answer
      • Reference materials need to be provided in some way
      • We'll spend more time on presenting answers in photos or videos once the questions are answered.

    • Simple forms of competition
      • We don't encourage tense competition. For all teams with the correct answers will get the points. For teams that have wrong answers will get points deducted. Teams can choose not to answer questions for which don't get points.
    • Team members:
      • One will be the lead to pick up questions and to present answers. Student can probably take turns to be the lead.
      • Other members need to pay attention to the videos or images in order to provide answers
  • Closure (10 min):

    • A short speech to conclude what students learn today
    • For the team with the best score, a simple present will be given to team members
    • For the team with the least score, there will be "punishment" which the team will go up to the stage to perform (dance, sing, ..)
    • Advisers need to reset/clear the setting of wireless network
